The Expedition Guide Academy (Outwardly Bound Ltd) Terms and Conditions


1. Introduction
Welcome to the Expedition Guide Academy. Our terms and conditions apply to all our services, including online and in-person courses and assessments. By booking with us, you agree to these terms, so please read them carefully.

2. Online Courses & Assessments Cancellation Policy
- Full refund (minus USD $200 admin fee) for cancellations within 14 days of booking.
- No refund after 14 days; 100% charge applies.
- In case of cancellation by the Academy: Full refund.

3. In-Person Courses & Assessments Cancellation Policy
- 90 days or more before the course: Full refund minus USD $200 admin fee.

- 31 to 90 days before the course: 50% of the course fee, minus USD $200 admin fee.

- Within 30 days of the course: No refund, regardless of cancellation reason.

- For any bookings done within 30 days of the course start: No refund unless the Academy cancels the course.


4. Travel Insurance Requirement
- Mandatory comprehensive travel insurance covering trip cancellation, medical coverage, emergency repatriation, and other travel mishaps.

- “Cancel for any reason” insurance policies are strongly recommended.

 

Note. The EGA can not help with advising what insurance to purchase.


5. Liability and Risk Disclosure
- Participation involves inherent risks, including potential injury, property damage, or death.

- The Academy is not liable for personal injuries (physical/mental), death, property damage, or any incidental expenses incurred as a result of booking and/or participating in the training.

- Participants are responsible for their travel, including being informed of restrictions and obtaining necessary visas and vaccinations.

 

The EGA strongly encourages participants to make sure their insurance covers motorsports, such as operating and driving a Zodiac (50 HP engine)


6. Course Cancellation by the Academy

- Courses may be cancelled for insufficient enrollment or unforeseen circumstances. 

- Full refund of fees paid in such cases.

- The Academy is not liable for refunds or travel costs in case of cancellation.


7. Participant Agreement and Responsibility
- Participants acknowledge the physical nature of training and the need to follow safety instructions and rules.
- Participants must inform instructors of any medical conditions and maintain personal equipment in safe condition.

- The Academy has the discretion to cancel activities for safety concerns or uncontrollable events. 

- The Academy has the discretion to stop a participant's in-person or online training or assessment for safety concerns, inappropriate behaviour or uncontrollable events. 

Polar Bear Safety & Firearm Handling (PBS). Participants are required to supply the EGA with a clean police report/background check. This needs to be supplied at least 30 days before the commencement of the participant's intended course Polar Bear Safety & Firearm Handling (PBS) course. Should a participant not manage to get this in time for the training, they will not be able to participate in any training involving handling a firearm. There will be no compensation or refund in this case by the EGA. Participants in Comprehensive Guides training are not required to supply this paperwork. 


8. Data Protection and Privacy

- Commitment to protecting personal information in accordance with data protection laws.

 

9. Governing Law
- These terms are governed by the laws of New Zealand and any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts.

- By booking a course, participants agree to these terms and conditions
